    Default Cloning trouble.... HELP!

So..... the nice guy that I am..... I told a good friend I would help her upgrade her 2009 Mac Book Pro..... cloning the HD to a SSD, and an upgrade of RAM.

I'm using Super Duper. Error copying 3 times.

I looked on the HD..... there is no "Macintosh HD/Users/admin1/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/History" that I can find (or maybe it's there but invisible?)

I logged into her admin account (made sure it was the right one) and completely deleted her Safari History.

Tried again... still no luck. Same error.

I'm scratching my head here. How can I delete a bad file if I can't find it on her HD (even as the administrator???)

    Thanks!!!

You can make the User Library permanently visible by opening a Terminal window and typing:

    chflags nohidden /Users/admin1/Library

I haven't a clue why SuperDuper isn't working right. Do you have the latest version running? You might also try a trial with CCC.

Yeah, always had good luck with Super Duper. And, I did just the other day download the latest version.

The way I've got this set up is that I connected her laptop via a FW800 cable in Target mode and then hooked up the new SSD in a USB 2.0 enclosure, running my own personal copy of Super Duper on my Mac Pro to do the clone (so I didn't have to buy the software all over again on her computer)

I'm gonna try the Terminal trick. I'm sure I can get this to work!

    Thanks!

You'll need to do that while her computer is booted up. Otherwise it won't point to the right drive if mounted as a Target disk.

Note, you do not have to purchase SuperDuper to download and use it to copy an operating system drive. It is free for that task, it just always erases the destination if it is unlicensed. So I would recommend you download SuperDuper to her computer and run the backup from there.

Oh okay. Thanks for the tips!

I encountered a couple of other corrupted files (one in the same folder as before and another in downloads..... a 3rd duplicate copy of some pdf file.....), and that apparently solved it. Cloning was successful. Thanks to help from the Gurus!
