Of late, I've been playing with my Mac Mini to get better processing speeds out of it, as I was fed up with the long times taken by iSkysoft to convert movies from format to format.

So after getting an SSD fitted, I was a bit miffed to find that an 8Gb mpeg still took about 2 hours to become, say, a .mov file.

Then I did what I should have done in the first instance - looked for an alternative to iSkysoft! And found one, called Wondershare Video Converter. About $55, and the interface seems almost a copy of iSkysoft's version, but the speed!

The same file that was taking 2 hours on iSkysoft takes 2.5 minutes on Wondershare (all with the same kit).

Unfortunately I no longer have the 'slower' Mini fusion drive, but I suspect that it wouldn't have been much slower on that.

Lesson? Keep up with the software!
