Default USB Bootable 10.9.4 Hangs with 1 second to go

Hi there i have just tried to do 2 clean installs on 1 Macbook Pro MD101LL/A and 1 Macbook Pro Retina ME865LL/A...I downloaded the latest installer from the App store to my iMac and then created a bootable USB stick with the Mavericks installer using 2 different methods.
    1) Diskmaker X
    2) Via Terminal
Both methods when i tried to do a clean install on both machines hung with 1 second remaining and wouldn't go any further..
What am i doing wrong? I thought the App store installer is universal for all Mac computers..
    Any comments would be great..Thanx

Hard to say what's going on in Cupertino these days other than iOS is king. With 10.8 my OS crashes. With 10.9 my apps crash. Both are equally annoying. It's almost like I've gone back to system 7.My 10.4 system on a FrankenMac is solid as a rock.

    Remember install discs?

Hung at what point (did it say anything like optimizing or running scripts?) and for how long?

The installers 'estimated time remaining' is ridiculously inaccurate
