Default Close....but no cigar: VESA drama.

So previous iMacs could have their stand (foot) removed, and an adapter plage added, so the machine could be mounted on any VESA arm that could support it's weight. Great for businesses, clean setups, and increased security (harder to grab and run).

But, only the 27" model. Why? Only Apple knows. Can't tell you how many times a customer wanted their 21" iMac mounted...and had to shug and and say no. Previous gen iMacs could all be VESA mounted.

Then the new skinnies ship, and the stand (foot) is NOT removable, so no VESA mount. Why? Only Apple knows.

So now they have a build to order option......for both sizes. Great news. But 2 steps forward, one step back.

    - Custom order. Can't drop in and grab one. Anywhere.
    - No foot included. A commitment that may keep folks away.
    - Extra cost, for less.

HEY APPLE: MAKE A DETACHABLE FOOT STANDARD. BETTER YET, MAKE THE FOOT CONNECT TO A BUILT IN VESA MOUNT PLATE STANDARD, SO EVERY IMAC IS READY FOR ANYTHING. OUT OF THE BOX.

    DONE!

    STOP THE MADNESS!

Opportunity for some wicked sweet iMac feet and mounts. Lots out there, but many are clunky and decidedly not sexy. These are actually worth what they cost.

This one looks like quality too.

One of the nice things about the skinnies is that they are much lighter. NEVER user a VESA mount that cannot handle the weight.....there is nothing worse than a sagging, slowly sinking monitor, that won't stay where you want it. I see the new 21" iMac is only 11.5 pounds, so most VESA mounts that can handle about 20 lb. should work great. Even the 27 is only 19.2 lb. The previous gen. was about 30 lb. with the foot off. That was a challenge....

Still, I would not mount a 19.2 lb machine on a 20 lb max arm. Trouble.
