Default Slow Mac not running games

I am not a regular game player but sometimes do it for the sake of enjoyment. But, from last couple of months I am noticing that my machine goes more slow when I start the game.
My friend suggested me either to increase RAM or to optimize it. I am confused which way to go. Please help me.

Machine stats and what game you are running would help

Games are known ram hogs so getting more won't hurt anything

If it's hard drive optimization you're referring to that is done automatically these days

Open your Activity Monitor and under Window and select Memory. See how it looks during this slow time if possible. Or right after check the Memory tab again for Page Outs and Swap used.

Yes, your OS version, computer type, speed, memory RAM, the game...

Which OS are you using? Is this related to your slow game. You want the game and OS on the fastest partition.

    Confused

Its Mac OS X 10.8.2 and am playing FTL. Does installing on separate partition help?

I saved my money by optimizing my Mac. Its a Mac cleaning tool I bought for $29.00 and made my games go easy.

    Now enjoying
