Default How to fix old style wireless mouse

My old style Apple wireless mouse, the one with the little round ball, no longer scrolls properly. It will scroll down but not up. I've tried the usual remedies - rubbing the ball on my jeans, using canned air but no luck. I do not see how to take this apart to clean out the inside. Any suggestions to get this working again would be appreciated. Its the model #A1197 and is no longer made.

Or, can you recommend a wireless mouse? I'm running a 4 year old 24" iMac, 3.06gh with 4g memory. One of the complaints I've heard about with non-Apple mice is that they disconnect often.

    Thanks.

It may just be worn out. If you can't find a fix... Search eBay for "apple wireless mouse A1197"... a spare never hurts.

I see both new and used from 5 to 30 bucks. There are other non Apple mouse's that people use. Logitech comes to mind first.

Get a clean sheet of white paper.

Unplug the mouse and roll the ball around and around on the paper for about a minute, or until it stops leaving grey tracks.

Let me know if it works for you. It works for me.

    Default Problem solved!!

    Thanks biggles, that worked.

Apple tech support had told me to do the same thing on a pair of jeans and that is what I've been doing every time the problem occured but this time it didn't work. Now I know that paper works too.

    Cool!

I used to have the same problem until someone turned me on to the paper trick.

I love the web! Spread the knowledge. Ten or fifteen years ago getting an answer would have been difficult to impossible.
