Default Macbbok Pro 17 Won't switch to AMD Video Card

Hi there i just purchased a MBP 17 Late 2011 with the AMD Radeon HD 6770M..When i am using various software the MBP is not using the AMD graphics card but the built-in Intel 3000 Graphics card..Is my AMD graphics card switched off or something?? Strangely enough in the System Profile it shows both cards!!
Can the Graphics cards be switched via the power saver in Prefs?
Any tips or ideas would be most appreciated..Cheers

Never heard of that before. What apps are you running? I can see a situation where the AMD is not used (until needed) to conserve power and reduce heat.

Run an app that uses heavy graphics and see what happens.

Spot on, Damien. If it's not needed then it won't be used. However, if it SHOULD be being used and it isn't then there's clearly a problem.
Run something heavy, like a game, and see if you can find out which it's using.
As the graphics switching is entirely automatic, I'm not sure how you are going to be able to tell when you come out of something that is using the AMD processor... will that show up in the log?
There is no way of forcing it to use the AMD processor that I know of.
