    Question PX-L890SA - SATA Plextor SuperDrive DVD-R ?

Will the "PX-L890SA - SATA Plextor SuperDrive DVD-R
$69.00" work as a internal replacement in my MDD?

Panasonic's wont fit ..... bastard size bay.
Haven't found any kind that will ... so far.

    thanks, h

Default Not sure about the Plextor's fit

I have a very little used 111DL Pioneer optical drive in my Dual 1.6 G4
    This one if I remember.

I need to reinstall the patch for the Dual Giga to get this machine up and running again. I pressed the PMU in a moment of fustration yes I'm an idiot at times.

I'd just as soon part it out or sell it whole as I doubt I'll ever bother and it's a solid machine that has been maxed out. I just need more simplicity now. No time for much fussing.

Did you take the bezel off the end of the cd tray?

You would not want the SATA version for the MDD. Your MDD has an ATA connection.

Seems I tried a new 111DL Pioneer in the MDD but wont fit ... too big, without doing some cutting.

It will fit my G4 DA, but I've already replaced it with one.

Need one for my MDD, right now the MDD is just a -R. which sucks because I have many DVDs burned with +R from my DA.

    This is my dilemma.

I do believe the ATA Plextor will work. Might need some minor adapting but they all will.

What is it that doesn't fit? What dimension?

They are also just -R, I need both.
That will work in a pinch, if it will fit without a lot of work.

Right back to the "PX-L890SA - SATA Plextor SuperDrive DVD-R"
Would like a less expensive unit if possible.

    Maybe Ricks will drop by....................

This is what you get dealing with "old world" macs.
    Probably another "SOL".

My guess would be depth. Too long. I have seen some deeper drives and some short drives

Maybe Haz will come back and we'll see if my prognostidigitationizertion's are correct..

    Question

The measurement problem stems from the optical drives tray ..... is hitting the outer plastic front when the tray tries to open.
Most trays like the Pioneer are wider than the MDD superdrive.
Would have to cut part of the plastic face.

The actual drive fits .... no problem.
I'll take a measurement of the tray door and get back.

What's the width of the Plextor tray door?
Another Mac "fuoky you in the butty""

    .

All optical drives MUST have the bezel removed from the tray to fit through the door on any Mac

Most of the time the bezel will slide off the front of the tray by flexing the middle away from the tray and sliding the bezel down off of the tray. This leaves you a tray that is of minimum dimensions. True of all brands and models - when installed internally the tray bezel must be removed. The bezel is to both make it look nice when installed in an external enclosure and to keep dust out.

As shown, use a paper clip to open the door then remove the bezel.
