Overall this G5 Dual 1.8 seems to be a very fast machine.
    The monitor is working great.
Calibrated and easy on the old eyes, Color is great
    A few other niggles...
CD/ DVD drive does not want to open,
This will take a few slaps in the head to figure out why.
I have another if I need to change it out
Transferring Data, Apps Etc. from Panther to Leopard using Migration Assistant was not as smooth as it could have been.
Really just minor niggles to work out.

    Dave,

I bumped my iMac from 2GB which was okay to 3GB and it was a big difference.

How does your "Activity Monitor" look after you've been running it with your applications open? At 2GB mine kept maxing out. Not with 3GB

You might have a bigger apps/files etc. RAM is cheap now though - I think.

You're going to like this G5 I think.

    Hello Randy,
Activity Viewer shows this machine almost at 20% usage even with Photo-Shop running.
    I am amazed !!!
I had done the homework and was a bit afraid as there were issues with heat and noise in some of these machines. fan noise etc.
    This one is so quiet.
I have only heard the fans spin up one time and it was not very loud.
I have a silly fan thing under this Laptop most of the time,
    ( can't hurt )
but it is much louder than any noise the tower ever has made.
Yep, I'd love to see what it will do with a full 4 Gigs of memory...
    just because ....haha

    Glad you are loving it.

The funny thing with the G5 is that it is pretty clear to me that the main reason it is so big is that Apple wanted large heat sinks, and large, slow turning fans so it would be quiet. And they are.

The irony is, folks expect them to be quiet all the time. So even under heavy load, as the fans ramp up to keep everything cool, folks still expect them to be quiet. Which is kind of silly.....if you think about it.

So don't be alarmed if the fans come up a bit here and there when you push her a bit harder. That's by design. They will spool up gently, and back down gently.

    Yes Uncle,
    You nailed it...
    but just like anything,
You can get a good one or a bad one...
an analogy if you allow me...
I ran a music store for many years.
We would have 30-50 Fender Strat guitars arrive at a time.
    ( Floor Plan ).
Theoretically all were identical, CNC routed etc.
    Mass production.
But some worked / sounded better than others.
perhaps one really shined out of the lot.
Sorry if I got off subject Sir...
and again thanks for your help.
