    Confused Missing Macintosh HD Icon

I just purchases a MacBook G5 running Snow Leopard. The HD icon does not appear any place. It should be in the finder but it is not. I reloaded the OS but still no icon. Spotlight found the folder and I placed the folders in the dock so I can access them. Even if there is no icon on the desktop according to the manual it should appear in the finder.

Yup.....all preferences. To see it in the Sidebar in the Finder, open Finder preferences and check the "Hard disks" box.

Personally, I don't like the HD on the desktop. And Apple agrees; no longer the default as of 10.6.

If you want to see it quickly, in the Finder click on the menu bar: Go/Computer
