    Confused Self Assigned IP #

MY IBook G4 will not connect to the internet using Airport. It will work with an ethernet cable. Network Assistant says there is a Self Assigned IP #. I connect via a Westell DSL modem from Verizon. I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.11. I don't have the original system disks.

Just to make sure the setting are right...

Go to Network Preferences. Select Advanced and then hit the tab up top for TCP/IP.

You should be configured as Using DHCP (which means the iBook gets its IP address from the router)

There also is a button you can hit to Renew DHCP Lease. This forces it to ask for another IP address. See if that help.

I am not running 10.4, haven't in a couple years at least. It may have a few small differences form this Leopard screenshot of the TCP/IP Config page.
