Strange Macbook Pro fault

Hi everyone,

I've got a problem with my macbook pro.

I was using it the other night and turned it off, litterally by shutting it down. When I came to turn it on the next day - nothing .

It's not under warranty and i've tried the obvious holding down the power button for 5 seconds with everything (power-wise) unplugged. Still nothing.

There are a few things that are strange, also. When the battery is connected back up it does not charge. The green led light is on the power cord but it wont turn on and no power appears to be getting anywhere near the battery :-(.

Any thoughts?

Man, that is sucky. Only thing I can think of that you can do is an SMU Reset. Apple has a page on just that procedure. You might give it a go. Other than that you pretty much are down to trying a new battery and taking it to a shop.

Outside chance the power brick is bad?

Try starting without the brick plugged in (battery only), and try pulling the battery out and starting (power brick only). That's about as far as you can go with testing.

Some models have an internal reset PMU/SMU switch, but I don't think the MBPs do. If you know anybody with the same power brick, that would be nice to try. Any Apple Service provider could quickly test a second power brick too.
