    Default powermac g5 fan issues.

    when i turn the machine on for about 1 minute it stays quiet, but then kicks in to overdrive afterwards. any ideas on why?

    its a dual 2ghz g5
    3GB gigaram ((chimes correctly on boot)i know the ram is in properly)
    no hard drives
    64MB aTI video card.

    Hello,

    first, i would attach a Hard Disk and put an adequat OSX on it.
    Most of the Fan controll is software based, build in OSX.
    Thats one Point why the G5 Macs (also the MDDs) are really loud when booting Linux (or OS9) cux the fans.kext is not running.

    I this is not solving your problem, you can pull the power cord for a few hours to reset the PMU (PowerManagementUnit).

    Post back if your problem still exists, or if one of the hints worked for ya!

    Exactly right. Your G5 is doing what it is supposed to do. Need the right OS......if you clone an OS over from a G4, the machine may boot and run stable, but the fans will still go into high mode because the software that controls them is missing.
