Default Burning DVD-R DL with iMac Intel 2

I have just wasted 3 DVD-R DL disks trying to burn some data with my new iMac 20"..I also have a NEC 4570A external via Firewire and they both stop burning at around 8mins10secs..All 3 times..(2 NEC and 1 Apple)
Previously the NEC has worked flawlessly and the burner in the iMac i know is not supposed to burn -R DL but it got all the way to 8mins then shit itself..

    Anyway thoughts on this problem?

    Thanx

    Default Couple questions..

    10.4.8?

From this review, firmware is 1.02, is that what yours has? Does NEC offer a newer than 1.02? http://www.cdfreaks.com/reviews/NEC-.../Features.html

Try it at 1x mode, just to see if that makes a difference? CD-R's / DVD-R's? ok?

I don't know about your NEC but your SuperDrive will, for Dual Layer, only burn DVD+R DL. No surprise to me that it will not complete. I use Verbatim 2.4X DVD+R DL 8.5GB. I buy them in a 3 pack. k
