IBook g4 hanging on startup

Hi Guys

I have had a client dump their new ibook g4 1.33 12" at my office asking if we can get it running.
Problem is: on startup it hangs on grey apple screen with spinning icon.

It also does this with the install disk.

I have run in SU mode fsck, all appears ok, reset pram and nvram.

unfortunately they didnt have applejack installed.

any ideas?

.....so when you try to boot to an OS install CD/DVD, it still hangs? If so, are you sure it is the correct boot CD, and that it is not damaged?

How about booting it to target mode from another Mac?

Yeah the disk is the right boot cd, but I can boot to target mode.

I think the only solution is to re intall, at least with target mode I can copy her files off.

When you do your reinstall, consider zeroing the drive to map out any bad blocks. If the drive is bad, it will likely fail being zeroed.
