Default DVD Burner In Beige G3 Desktop

If I put an internal DVD burner into a Beige G3/266 Desktop:

    - Will I be able to watch DVD movies (or will I need a decoder or something else)?

    - Can I also burn CDs with it, or just DVDs (i.e. do DVD burners also burn CDs)?

    Thanks

    Hello Kaps,

what OS are you running on your Beige (OS9 or OSX)?

You'll need a decoder which is build-in ATIs Radeon, Radeon 7000 and 9200.
With one of those cards you'll be fine in OS9 or X.

Yep, using the Finder within OSX or Toast or some other apps.

I had my Pioneer DVR-109 in my Beige DT for a while with Panther, and an ATI 9200 PCI. Finder burning of DVDs was slow due to the limited data transfer rates. It wasn't the actual burning that was slow it was the creation of the disk image by the OS. You'll need Patchburn for Finder/iApps burn support in Panther or earlier.

DVD player worked fine as long as I didn't try to do anything else that depended on transferring data on the stock IDE bus or a good chunk of RAM.

    Burning CDR was pretty fast.

I never tried burning or watching DVDs in 9.
