    Default Optimum B & W G3 server drive setup

    Hi,

    I have a B & W G3 that I'm going to be using as a server. It will be used to run Squid + Dansguardian to filter web content and it will be used to do some file serving. Nothing heavy duty or important. Pretty much just my families MP3s and other odds and ends.

    I have the following drives to play with:

    2 x 80GB, 7200 RPM Hitachi SATA drives with a Seritek 1S2 card.
    1 x 120GB, 7200 RPM EIDE WD Caviar on the internal IDE bus.

    I was thinking of using 1 of the SATA drives as the boot drive, the other SATA drive as the file serving drive + squid cache. Then I'd use the EIDE drive to backup the file serving SATA drive.

    The other setup I was considering was the EIDE drive as the boot drive and then striping the SATA drives and using them for the MP3s and squid cache.

    Which would you recommend?

    Thanks,

    Andy

    Hello,

    you should consider to install the 1S2 in the 66MHz 32Bit videocard PCI slot for optimal performance (improve write speeds).

    Bus Type

    * 32 bit, 33/66MHz PCI
    * Compliant 32-bit PCI bus version 2.2
    And use one of the SATA drives for Boot/System.

    Best regards
