I just bought 2-512mb SDRAM's (from Cruicial) for my G4/466 and when I checked to see that both were showing up in system profiler I noticed that it's showing 4 slot's instead of the actual 3? Any idea why?
    OS: Jaguar

    DIMM0/J21 512mb
    DIMM1/J22 512mb
    DIMM2/J23 empty
    DIMM3/J24 empty

The early G4s were based on the Yikes board designed to take 4 x 256mb, when the 512mb modules came out the 4th slot was not needed as they can only handle 1.5gb, not 2gb as some people were rich enough to try out so Apple junked the unnecessary 4th slot on subsequent builds.

weird - didn't spot that you were commenting on a software cock-up, ask Apple, maybe they have a slot on the underside of the board for attacking Iraq in case they get accidentally exported to unfriendly nations!

Or maybe you have a traumatised board that reports an amputated appendage as still being there!
Did it show 4 slots before you stuck in the 512s?
