Drive and RAID DB updated. Boots provided some data on his SCSI Burly with 10.3.3 and ATTO driver 3.1.0, thank you very much. So at the top of SCSI, I compared those results with his previous 10.3.2 and ATTO driver 3.0.3. Definite improvements. k

Another Drive and RAID DB update, this time provided by new Member iQuack. At the top of the ATA Drives.

MDD 1.25G DP with 2x180GXP-8MBcache Hitachi drives, one on the ATA/100 internal bus and one on the ATA/66 internal bus, Apple RAID striped, 10.3.3, QB2.1-100MB, read 85MB/s, write 114MB/s. We have not had any reports of someone doing that on the internal buses. Very interesting and fast. k

Drive and RAID DB updated. Macro has achieved outstanding results with a G5-2GHz DP, UL4D, 4x X15.3 18GB drives, 2-channels, all firmware 0006. Two of the drives are spanking new and, as TZ pointed out, tho the same firmware, may have other hardware tweaks inside.

All the QB2.1 extended test sizes, 20MB thru 100MB, sustained writes essentially 280MB/s or more and one test size, 40MB, 290MB/s. Would be interested to see the I/O when those two new drives loosen up in a couple of weeks of use. Results at the top of SCSI. k

Drive and RAID DB update this morning, this time provided by several folks.

At the top of the SCSI, Macro has updated results with up to 290MB/s writes. Smokin.

At the top of FireWire, klinger2004 has results for a single Maxtor in a FW800 external case.

Just below klinger2004, unclemac has results for a G4 SP Xserve boot mirrored RAID. k

I completely missed the boat on unclemac's G4 SP Xserve boot mirrored RAID. The PATA drives are in two of the Xserve's four hot swap trays, each tray on its own PATA bus.

So you will find his latest report at the top of ATA Drives. His previous FW800 Accusys ACUTA4 report remains near the top of FireWire Drives. Thanks for straightening me out unc. k

klinger2004 has provided results for his G5 1.8GHz DPv1, 1xRaptor36GSATA WD, SeriTek/1S2 in the 133 PCI-X slot, 10.3.4, Apple driver. At the top of SATA.

    Thanks klinger2004. k

I never got around to posting this but did these tests May 30 thru June 2 while both computers were running 10.3.3.

Performance of Hitachi 120GB 7K250-8MB PATA, Apple driver, 10.3.3, QB2.1-100MB:

SATA PCI host, 56.031 read, 58.601 write (with Gurus converter) on MDD
Acard 6880M, 56.137 read, 58.310 write (ATA100/133 PATA card) on MDD
ATA/66 bus, 56.649 read, 40.970 write Slave drive in QS/PF DP

Will update the DB when I get more entries to do. k

Received some entries from a Member who identified himself by his real name with no reference to his Gurus name. Looking at his desktop screenshot there was no mistaking Mac Japan. He has one FW400 and one PATA, each at the top. The PATA is way beyond me but very interesting so if I misidentified or omitted something important, please email me Mac Japan. Thanks for submitting your entries.

I also entered some results detailed previously here of some Hitachi 120GB 7K250-8MB cache PATA drives, one entry SATA and two PATA, each at or near the top. k

Tested a PATA 300GB DiamondMax 10 with 16MB onboard cache connected to an Acard 6885M controller in my GigaBump MDD, 10.3.7, Apple DU. The drive is new and should prove faster in a couple of weeks. QB2.1 results:

Five more entries, one at the top of SATA, four at the top of ATA. Both Chris Billington and zetoune have G4 AGP Graphics machines. The Sawtooth still does very well, heavily tricked out or not. Impressive. Please, both of you, if I have made any errors, email me at my MacGurus address and straighten me out.

    Thanks for your input. k

Three more entries, one at the top of SATA, two at the top of SCSI.

The SATA entry by Anonymous is particularly interesting:

One more entry at the top of SATA, again by Anonymous.

This time 8 drives which you can compare with his previous 4 drives just below this entry. Striped RAID was empty:

Six new entries at the top of SATA Drives, one by Chris Billington and five by me. Chris tested the Hitachi T7K250 160GB SATA II. Thanks Chris and sorry I took so long. I tested Raptor drives. Just wish I had a 4th Raptor74. My Gurus 4-bay Burly has three Raptor74s and two Raptor36s. There is actually a bay on the floor of the 4-bay for adding another drive and I used the five drives for testing the 5-port NetCell SR5113.

One more entry at the top of ATA Drives for my iBook drive. k

Eleven new entries at the top of SCSI Drives. Thought I had entered these in the DB but realized not today. Cheetah X15.2, X15.3, and Atlas 15K II drives with ATTO UL3D-66 and UL4D cards in my G5. k

Two more entries in the DB near the top of SATA, one is 4xRaptor74s with SeriTek/1VE4, my SATA Burly, and the other is a combination of that SATA Burly and my SCSI Burly with 4x Atlas 15K IIs, all 8x drives RAIDed together with SoftRAID 3.2.1, Workstation 128KB SU. k
