    So, if I had a better CPU and a Firewire tuner, I could hypothetically watch TV (or digital TV) using some headphones that had a Dolby(?) ProLogic (3.1?!?) decoder and virtualizer. There were a few shown on Headwize.com that looked OK, but then....

    DVDs are in Stereo or 5.1 Dolby surround, typically. If I connected the iMac to a 5.1 decoder/amp (and speakers), would I get proper 5.1 sound (tho' not 23-bit 44kbps hear-the-drummer's-deodorant-affect-reflections-off-his-chest DVD-Audio 5.1 sound)?

    ::::::::also...
    The 5.1 amp (no decoder...eheh) I have hums a bit; it's on the same powerstrip as the iMac, but downstream from an APC Backup ES 350 (a UPS); is the choice of UPS to blame, y'think? (Or just what a CA-5001 does?)

    Sorry, can't help you out much on the surround-sound thing. Can't get into it. I find it quite challenging enough to get a pair of speakers to work good in a room. I can't imagine dealing with 6.

    As for the hum thing, check this out.

    Okay, I'll try audio transformers to isolate the speaker system.
