A friend just bought a G4 450 DP, ordered a 40G IBM IDE drive and some RAM. I'm going to set up this machine for Final Cut Pro and Photoshop. I'm going to leave the 40G IBM drive as a media drive for FCP. I want to partion the stock drive. I'll create a 4G scratch disc for PhotoShop and want to make a partition for OSX. We won't install OSX until FCP 2.0 will run on it, but I want to have the partition ready. How large should I make the partition? Is there anything else I should consider?

    thanks in advance.

    I would say

    2~4GB for MacOS 9
    4~6GB for PhotoShop
    4~6GB for X+MacOS 9
    22~30GB for data/files/etc...

My G4/466 is setup nearly the same way, except there is no PShop scratch partition. I've found classic works best when installed on the same partition.
