I recently acquired a Titanium G4 Powerbook from a friend. I suspected this 'book had DVD drive problems, because whenever I inserted a disc (DVD or CD) I would get the generic 'This disc cannot be read, would you like to initialize it?' message.

I ordered a used Apple DVD drive and replaced the existing one, yet the message still appears. Hoping that the purchased drive was defective, I returned the drive and sent the Powerbook with it to have a new drive installed.

The company that sold and was to install a new drive wrote to tell me that the drive was functioning properly, and they could find no problems. I insisted there was a problem, and to check again.

After they checked again, they're now saying that the drive did not work, and that they've tried other drives as well with the same results.

From what they're telling me, this means that there is a problem with the logic board. The computer operates normally otherwise. Is this really the most likely problem?

Has anyone had a similar problem with their Powerbook?
