    hi gurus.
I have a Imac DV 400Mhz/128mb/12Gig/OS 9.0.4 that gives me trouble during the start up.
I can start up into the extensions manager just fine.
With the basic OS 9.0.4 extensions i get a bomb error message "Sorry system error occurred.Time Synchronizer error type 41", after the extensions load.
If I restart with the shift key down I get "A system error occurred. Restart with shift key down, all extensions off. Error Type 41" after i click on the restart field "Error Type 41" changes into "bus error".
I did change the battery today - no change.
I did pull the ram and put it back in (trying both slotts) - no change.
I did un- and re-plug the hard drive - no change.

If I do a start up from the OS9 cd rom everything works fine.

    any ideas???

    cheers Joern.

I also did zapp the P-Ram a few times.
    No change!

    Cheers Joern.

I'm not an expert with the iMac by any means, but I think that, since you can boot off of the OS9 CD, you either have a System Folder problem or a hard drive directory problem, or other HD problems.

You can either reinstall the System software or try repairing the hard drive. I use bootable CD's of DiskWarrior and Norton Utilities. My personal order of doing this is DiskWarrior, Norton Disk Doctor, Apple's Disk First Aid (on the OS9 CD), Norton Speed Disk, and DiskWarrior again. k
