    Okay this might sound dumb, but I just have to know what the empty white slot that sits in the middle of the brown ram slots is for. I don't think it's an L2 because I am pretty sure that is soldered to the board. DaveV

    It is a slot for a ROM DIMM http://www.macgurus.com/products/mot.../mbppc9600.php in case Apple ever wanted to upgrade the ROM on the mobo by just installing a ROM DIMM. Never did so on the 9600 that I know of. Several vintage PCI PowerMac models have the slot, only a very few ever got an upgrade. NuBus PowerMacs have the slot and do need the ROM board installed as there is no ROM on the mobo. k
