Thread: What kind of power supply in Umax?

Hello. Recently I was brought a Umax Pulsar with a dead power supply. I tried to arrange a replacement for the owner but The AT power supply I was offered (for $15!) was missing the extra 3.3V rail... there was a plug with 3 ground and three orange wires missing from the AT power supply that the Umax needs.

Aside from splicing, is there any matching power supply from the PC world that works in the Umax Pulsar?

The deal at Small Dog is the best option as long as they last. After that, one can modify an ATX power supply to use in the Umax machines (except the C500, because it won't fit). The Umax power supply has the same power signals as an ATX power supply but the connectors at the ends of the wires are different.

I have a file describing how to build an adapter at http://www.io.com/~trag . The file name is Umax_ATX_PS.sea.bin. Once you get it expanded it's a text file. There is/was also a copy on Macgurus ftp site, but that doesn't appear to be accessible at this time.

There is one error in the above file. The BMI substitute housing that I mention is the wrong size, so you really need to get an ATX extender as your source of the 20 pin plug, unless you can find a source for the housings somewhere else.

In case someone else happens along wanting this information, seven years later....

io.com changed their domain name to prismnet.com, so the new link is:

http://www.prismnet.com/~trag. The name of the file remains Umax_ATX_PS.sea.bin
