Do you have the original G5 install DVD?

That disk should have AHT (Apple Hardware Test). That might help as well.

Take a flashlight and look around the cooling system, make sure you dont see anything abnormal.

    Good luck!

  12. Will let Stew respond, will give him first crack at this

RWM, if push came to shove you can still use an external, actually ends up being more useful as the external can then be used for ext boxes (G-Tech, Firmtek).. I could be talked out of those too :)

  13. Just looked..

I have two 1S's, one internal and one external.

I assume you want the internal.
  14. Hi Stew

I used a 1SE2 on my wife's MDD (just have route an external cable, ie one long enough, through a PCI slot cover and back to the card). Was bootable, and worked flawlessly.

    Ah yes...

Always fun upgrading the old stuff :), wish I had a nickel for every hour of spent time on a 7300, 7500, 8500 myself!

  19. Agreed

Rick, you said it better than I, and I fully agree.
  20. My thoughts

    And I second that thought.

To take it further, I would never use a software raid for my boot system. The speed gain is almost nill (this has been proven).

Most users never need the power of...
  21. Sounds like you are on the right track

you will need a PCI-Express SATA card, as sold in the Gurus store (for my money, and I have no vested interest here) I would buy a Port Multiplier SATA PCI-E card (for the future).

    now just a word...
  22. Glad it worked out!

Still have a couple more UL3's, if anyone needs feel free to send an email, would like to clear out these odds 'n ends.

I have been eyeing as well..

    couple 2cents...

It appears (from lots and lots of reading) the 3.0 may use the 120watt processors.. personally I would save some $ and buy the 2.8 octo, and perhaps the raid card. (the 2.8's are...
