Hi Folks,

can you please tell me what kind of video-making software works with my old Mac PowerBook G4? mainly, i have a homemade DVD i need to take sections from in order to make a short demo.

Thank!
Jessie

iMovie should do the trick.

Howdy -

Depending on your OS, you will need an older version of iLife. My guess is for a G4 running 10.4......I think you would need iLife '08 (http://www.amazon.com/Apple-iLife-08-OLD-VERSION/dp/B000BX5JQG)....but it may be iLife '06 (http://www.amazon.com/Apple-iLife-Mac-DVD-VERSION/dp/B0007LW22G).

FYI: most folks like the 06 version of iMovie better, so maybe that is the safer route to go?

There are also 3rd party tools, but I don't have any experience with older versions (Adobe Premiere for example).

This (http://blog.iharder.net/2010/08/17/imovie-hd-available-here/) looks promising....

Once you have it, there are a few minor updates that should come from Apple...depending on what the first download was (likely 6.0). I think 6.0.4 was the last version, should be most stable and glitch free.

Happy to help. Always like a happy ending. :)

HI All,

Anyone know how to change some phone videos ( AVC HD) into a format I can use on I-movie? My older Mac wont take the MTS software.

REALLY appreciate all this help as I figure out how to create my singing demo - in the dark! ; ))

Cheers,
Jessie

There's a variety of converters out there. Sorry don't have any experience with them. Not a big video guy.

That said you will likely have to down convert the files below HD level to work with them on the G4 just like I had to reduce a 4K video a coworker shot on his phone (!) so i could play it back on my MBP because it can "only" handle 1080.

Gotta love technology.

Did some looking, but found mostly dead ends, or old commercial software. Found this thread (https://discussions.apple.com/message/15075305#15075305), where they talk about iMovie (though a much newer version....) and HandBrake (https://handbrake.fr/old.php).

....Maybe?
