Hello. Due to sudden, massive medical debt and no fall-back funds, I found an "old tool" forum in which buy/sell posts With Pics are okay, but I need to resize iPhoto v8.1.2 pics to 640 X 480 pixels from 2592 pixels wide X 1944 pixels high in order to post images of the tools I'd (w/ regrets) hope to sell. My OS is v10.6.8, as is far as I can go w/o an investment I can't afford, is my understanding. And it seems my iPhoto can't be updated either. I don't know how many times I've tried to find such a resizing option without joy. Are my "needs" possible (without spending money)? AND if so, what do I need to do? I should add that up till now I've used my '09 MacBookPro as a glorified typewriter/filing cabinet ONLY, so feel free to treat me as a complete computer-idiot w/o blame. *he grins and prepares to bear it* Thanks so much for any help anyone might have.

It's hard to keep up with all the changes that happen with software, and it's hard to remember all those changes once you have moved on. That said, I have a idea of what to do.

You can export the photos from iPhoto to your desk top and in the process it will ask about the size, choose small, and that should reduce it. If that doesn't work you could email yourself the photo with in iPhoto and select small size, then download it to your desk top.

Good luck!

How about something like this free editor app (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fotor-photo-editor/id503039729?mt=12)?

There are others, that was just the first one I found.

Someone around here can just about always figure out how to's, the big challenge seems to always be the limitations placed on the how to.

Looking at Ricks suggestion, then looking in the App Store, the first thing that strikes me most ( I didn't check them all, too much for me), the Apps in the App Store require 64 bit processing. Many require 10.7 or greater.

So maybe you could tell us about your MacBook Pro. If you select the Apple up in the upper left of your screen (about this Mac) will tell you about your computer. From that the process of elimination will find out where you are with the ability to upgrade the OS.

For just a few pix, I export them from iPhoto to the desktop or where ever, and adjust size and/or resolution with Preview. All built-in, and easy peasy.

Keep the high res pix in iphoto as a master or archive. Every time I need a low res photo for on-line, craigslist, whatever, I just grab a copy, size it, upload/mail/attach, and trash the copy......since I have the master in iphoto.

Hi bear_man,
I'm not sure if you have resized your photos, but give this a try in iPhoto:

Create a new folder on your desktop that you can use to export your photos to.

Within iPhoto, select the image(s) you want to resize. Do a test run by only selecting 1 photo to export.

Go to the Apple Menu along the top of your computer.
Go to File and then go down to Export (FILE>EXPORT)

Choose Export
A window will open up which will give you 3 options along the top. The options are: Export File; Web Page; SlideShow.

Choose Export File
A new window will open and you will be given a number of setting options. Try these settings, (I just did) and you should get the file size you want.

Kind: JPEG
JPEG Quality: High
Size: Medium
File Name: Pick what you want here.

Choose: Export (from lower left corner of window)

Choose: Where you want the file to be exported to. This will be the new file you created on your desktop.

Choose: OK

I did a trial export with these settings and achieved an image that is 397 x 640 pixels @72 pixels/inch.

You can vary the Size setting (Small; Medium; Large) to make the exported image(s) larger or smaller.

My iPhoto version is 9.4.2 and I'm hoping the Export feature works the same (or relatively the same) with your version.

If you need any further assistance with this, please post here and I'll try my best to help.

All the best,
MsNikon
