View Full Version : Mac Book Not Starting Properly

Hi,

my mac book is taking an extremley long time to load all of a sudden it just hangs at the initial grey apple screen with a little bar below it and sometimes it will just hang forever it just started happening out of no where any suggestions.

i made a couple videos of what it does and how long it takes to start and restart with and with out the battery in if that helps

Howdy.

That looks like the firmware update progress bar, but if this is 10.6, it is actually the fsck progress bar. fsck = file system check.


Good chance the hard drive has issues. First thing first: be sure backups are in order. Next, you need to decide how to test and proceed. Outside chance you can format the drive and it will be OK.....assuming it is not having a mechanical failure.

Next, you might run fsck manually in in single user mode so you can see the details. Check out other basic troubleshooting steps here (http://macitdepartment.com/How_To/How_To/troubleshooting_steps.html).
