My wife uses a 733 mhz Powerpc G4 tower with 640 mb ram. She wants to be able to stream video off Youtube, etc. like my 1.2 mhz iBook with 1.5 gb ram.......

I don't know much about this topic...... is the processor is too slow, not enough ram, or both? Does she need a faster modem ?

thanks

What operating system is being used?

What is your internet service and what is it's speed?

YouTube is HIGHLY dependent on internet download performance - more so than CPU and video card. Although those help some, the usual culprit of poor performance is download bandwidth. If you can start a video, pause it and let it finish downloading, then hit play and it does a fair job of playback, then you will know that your problem is internet connection speed.

I had an G4 QS 733, 867 and DA Giga Dual 1.6 upgrade, with GF ti graphics RAM always maxed, newer hard drives and all were temperamental on certain sites. The iMac fixed that. :) But yes a fast download is needed. Mine' is 7-8 Mbps. Not great but plenty for me.

My wife's machine is running OSX 10.4.11. Our service provider is Cox and our current download speed is advertised as "up to" 13 bps. They have another package that is $10 more for up to 20 bps........ will this make a difference?

I'm just a bit confused because my 1.2 ghz iBook can run streaming video from Youtube while using the Airport extreme card but my wife's 733 mhz machine can't and she's not using wireless /?????

THANKS FOR ANY MORE HELP ANYONE CAN OFFER !!!
