Dear Group,
Since i got a dead G5 too, I'm suddenly wondering which MacPro
might be the sweet spot for CS4 performance. I'm just a typical photoshop user ranging from web to 300 MB files. I've been out of the loop on
improvements because i was content with my G5, tho it had its limitations of course.

Thanks,
Steve Z denver

Pretty much any MacPro would be a huge bump coming off a G5. 10.6 is around the corner, and is expected to further increase overall OS related performance, as well as multiple CPUs and CPU cores.

The current base model quad core 2.66 MacPro kicks some butt, and for $500 hundred more you can grab the optional quad 2.93.

These guys don't have the scores for the current MacPros yet, but look at the last models, then scroll down to see G5 scores. And the latest machines are faster at slower clock speeds:

The mid level iMacs now kick G5 butt, though you are limited on RAM and hard drive, and replacing/upgrading the HD is major surgery. Can't argue with the speed, screen, or price though.
