Hi all,

I would like to create an emergency start up disk on one of my external SATA drives, but when I try to install the OS they do not show up.

Is it possible to do it and if yes how?

Thank you,

Francesco

While you can copy an OS to an external eSATA drive you cannot boot to an eSATA drive nor run the OSX installer to it since the installer will only work on bootable bus drives.

The eSATA cards are not bootable. That means that the drives attached to the card do not load up soon enough to be used as the boot device. If you want to back up your OS onto an eSATA drive you can, but you will have to move the drive to a bootable bus before you can boot from it.
