I am not sure exactly where I should post this, but I am looking for answers.

A few years ago, shortly before Mac OS X came out, I bought a Microtek 3700 scanner. When OS X came out, Microtek apparently decided not to support that scanner under OS X.

My question is this: Is there a work around or an OS X driver available that would allow me to continue to use this perfectly good scanner? I am using OS X 10.4.11 now, and would really like to not have to buy a new scanner. I have software for OS 9, but would really rather not to have to load classic (is it even available in 10.4?).

Thanks for you time.

Jim

Check out VueScan (http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html). They may have a driver for that scanner. You can try their software for free. Don't spend a lot, a 6 year old scanner is not expensive to replace. Unfortunately scanner companies tend to prefer to offer new models instead of new drivers we OS's get updated. Same with printers.

Alon with Rick's suggestion, you can also check out TwainSane (http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/), which a number of people are using in Leopard, which tends to break a lot of scanner support.

I tried it with my old Epson Perfection and it worked fine with that scanner, but it broke my business card scanner software. Maybe it's been updated since then, I don't know.

But other than that little incompatibility, it worked just fine.

Or you can look into Silverfast (http://www.silverfast.us/?gclid=CL6Jo7WOj5MCFQrFGgod7DdGgg). One of these options should work for you.. I hope

So vuescan doesn't support it and apparently neither does Silverfast. Thanks for the suggestions. Twaine Sane claims that it supports the Microtek ScanMaker 3700. However, I have no idea how to use it, there appears to be no software. Any ideas? My original scanner software is OS 9.

Thanks,
Jim

Hello,

I installed all the files from the TwainSane page that looked pertinent to running the software, but I can't find a program to run it. Can someone please give me some advice on how to find and use the software (Eric?). Sorry for my ignorance...

Thanks in advance for your help.
