Is it possible to run an apple 30 inch display on a powermac g4 quicksilver 2002 800mhz single with a ati radeon 9600 pro 256mb card?

Only one card (retail) can do this, and its the PC / Mac ATI 9600 (which seems to be the one you asked about?)

do you happen to know what accesories i would need to make this display work on the g4, also do you think with this card/computer the 30" would work okay or would it give me terrible image quality being it was designed for the g5 and up?

I would start with the card, but an 800MHz on a 30" would be rough going I fear (speed wise)...

I would tend to think a 23" with a processor upgrade would be more appropriate.

There would be no accessories needed, ATI card, G4 and 30".

737-21888: Radeon 9600 PRO PC & MAC Edition list of un-supported system configurations

The information in this article applies to the following configurations:

* Radeon® 9600 PRO PC & MAC Edition
* "Quicksilver" Power Mac G4 model
* "Quicksilver 2002" Power Mac G4 model
* "Digital Audio" Power Mac G4 model

The Radeon 9600 Mac & PC Edition is not compatible with the "Quicksilver", "Quicksilver 2002" or the "Digital Audio" PowerMac G4. If a Radeon 9600 Mac & PC Edition board is installed in one of these systems the result is a blank display.

For assistance in differentiating Power Mac G4 models, please refer to Apple Article 58418.

I knew there was a catch, I cannot believe ATI has a market for a card like this.

Also found this from www.macsales.com "OWC NOTE: Requires Power Mac G4 "Mirrored Drive Door" System or later!"

Buyer beware tho.... can you purchase from somewhere that allows returns?

Some more expertise on this would be over at www.strangedogs.com /forums.. if those guys cant help, there is not a solution :)

Edit: appears you need to register now, its well worth doing so.
