I am looking to buy a new LCD monitor for photo retouching and color proofing.

Any eperience or suggestion between the LaCie 321 and the new Eizo CE240W?

The price is similar $1,500 x LaCie and 1,700 for Eizo.
LaCie is 21" 1600x1200 and Eizo is 24" 1900x1200.

Also do you think that they will work fine with the ATI Radeon 9000 PRO 64MB VRAM that I have on my G4. I would rather not spend money in an upgrade since I am planning to switch to a G5 as soon as I have a chance.

Thanks,

Francesco

Start with Dell probably. They just came out with a new model.
www.barefeats.com I think mentioned it. Or google ;-)

Thanks TZ.

They look cool, but unfortunately are not as relyable for color proof as the LaCie and Eizo.

Apple, Dell and most others work in 8bit color vs LaCie 10bit and Eizo 14bit.

Francesco

Eric, one of the moderators here sworn by Eizo in the past for this sort of work as I recall. Hopefully he will pop in and give his thoughts.

Afraid most of the regulars around here don't work at this level of color correction/matching.

And I am colorblind, so whatever I say - do the opposite! :p

Thank you Unclemac,

Actually after much research and opinions from other photographers I decided to go with the Eizo. The LaCie came highly recommended too but not as good as the Eizo. And with this new model, for almsot the same price as the 21" LaCie I am gettinga 24" widescreen.

I just can't wait to receive it!

Thanks,

Francesco

Give us a review when you get setup, so we can see how the other half lives with the good stuff.

Hi,

we have several EIZO LCD's at work and all I can say they are GREAT!

The new Eizos can be set to 5.000K (D50) or 6.500K (D65) so colormanagement is not a problem.

Also Eizo is very good quality, better I say nothing about LaCies ;)

Next thing, 24" to 21" is a huge improvement, if ya doing alot with QXP, InDesign or Photoshop ya'll love to have a 24" display.

Best regards

Nicolas

Thank for the info Nicolas,

My CE240W is on the UPS truck. Should be here next week.
I jsut can't wait. I work in CS2 and Bridge 90% of the time and I am "graduating" from an old 19" LaCie CRT.

Now I just need a Quad like you, then I'll be happy ;-)

Ciao,

Francesco

I have received my new Eizo CE240W.

What a difference from my 19" CRT.

Easy set up, easy calibration (with eye-one2), great colors and great working space.

I think that for $ 1600 this is a great monitor. Very happy with my choice.

Best regards,

Francesco
