Hello,

I am looking for a video card to run OpenGL in After Effects 6.5. I was looking on their web site and they give a list of cards you may use. I am wandering wich one of these cards is better, the Nvidia Geforce 6/Quadro FX 1300-4400 or the ATI Radeon 9600/9700/9800. Or if anyone know of a better card. Also, where I might be able to purchase one of these cards.

Thanks all,
Corey

Don't leave off the Radeon X800 XT. Also, 1.5GB RAM could use a boost in the end.

Bare Feats (http://barefeats.com/speedtests.html#3D) has some reviews, testing and benchmarking that might be helpful. This Google search? (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=best+macintosh+gaming+AGP+Card&spell=1) Not a gamer myself. - Randy

Thanks guy's.
TZ, how much ram do you think I should upgrade to if I want to run open GL in AE 6.5?

Thanks

How much system RAM? For a G5, 1.5GB is essentially the minimum 'sweet spot' and the rest depends on how well applications are optimized and programmed for G5. With Photoshop CS2, you basically can't have too much as it is a memory hog and uses RAM in place of what use to have to be swapped out to scratch RAID. I am guessing, but would have to say, the more the merrier. Price for 1GB DDR400's would be the only limiting factor.

ATI has 256MB on all their new AGP cards. The X800 XT $399. There will be a newer 9800 but pretty much the same as now. Even the recently announced 9600 Pro is 256MB and supports OpenGL 2.0.
