I have a friend who is trying to do realtime video/webcam using this camera, but cant seem to find away. They have a G4 400, and no FireWire. I looked at Sony and some other sites and it doesnt look good. Any help or thoughts on being able to hook this up to a Mac.

That Handycam is a Digital 8mm right? It should have firewire i/o as well as the G4. You just need a 6 pin to 4 pin firewire cable. I doubt you could have it perform as a webcam (though I've never tried). You should be able to record a realtime DV stream though, once you connect via firewire and open a capture window in a video app.

I use mine as my iChat camera, works just fine.

I've been using the exact same camera and exact same computer for a few years now. Adobe Premiere works fine with it.

As mentioned earlier, the firewire cable is not the regular hard drive cable (6-pin to 6-pin). It's a 6-pin to 4-pin cable (the 4-pin end goes into the camcorder and is pretty tiny).
