View Full Version : 32mhz PCI Max. Thruput?

I'm in the process of upgrading my PTP from UW RAID to LVD RAID and I would like to know the maximum thruput possible over the systems 32 bit PCI bus. I know quite a few folks around here have topped out a PTP PCI bus. What is the best performance possible?

I looking for a top end read/write numbers so I can know how close the thruput of the set-up I end up with is to the ceiling of the bus. I know I could exploit the two PCI busses of the PTP pro, and I might end up doing that, but just getting one bus saturated now would make me happy.

Thanks - Hap

Go here http://www.macgurus.com/ubb/Forum12/HTML/000061.html for starters and here http://www.macgurus.com/ubb/Archives/Archive-000016/HTML/20010513-12-000013-2.html and http://www.macgurus.com/ubb/Archives/Archive-000016/HTML/20010513-12-000013-4.html down the page.

Bottom line, whether Miles2 or ATTO UL3D, sustained read goes up dramatically as you add striped drives but sustained write peaks at about 40+MB/s with one Miles2 or UL3D. Two Miles2 breaks the 40MB/s sustained write barrier. k

Brilliant! I was going back to make a little bit/mhz edit in my post and kaye has posted the answer to my question within minutes of the asking. Thanks. You 've really confirmed my belief that investing in this "old" PTP was a good idea. I can't wait to get it really flying.

Thanks again - Hap
