View Full Version : Cheetahs are here!

I have my brand new X15's A pair of 318452LW's on an ATTO Ultra 160 Dual channel card. 18.35 gig each striped with OS X

Here are some rough timed tests to dupe a file comparing my Cheetah Raid to my IBM ATA66 60gig 7200rpm stock drive.

625.8MB file

Cheetah Raid 14 seconds to duplicate
IBM 40 seconds

82MB file

Cheetah 2.9 seconds
IBM 7 seconds

These times are rough because I need a benchmarking utility that runs in OS X

Anybody know of one?

ATTO just released one. Have not tried to download it yet.

IS there a downloadable?

I saw your other post and it mentioned an extremely high price......

The other post is for the full OSX RAID package. Traditionally ATTO has given away the utility package via downloads. The OSX RAID page at ATTO lists a new Benchtest utility, the old version definately would not work right when testing drives in OSX via classic.

I just unsuccessfully tried to find a link for the utility, must not be set up at ATTO yet.

There is a 2.7 of ExpressPro-Tools.

Running bench test under Classic actually works, not sure how accurate.

PR: 200MB/s SR: 131MB/s
PW: 124MB/s SW: 35MB/s

ATTO UL3S (1.6.5a) w/ 2G X15 (non-RAID)

I just bought an Atlas 10k 3 to compare - very close to the 2G X15 except for one small matter. I had bought the Atlas for its low noise 3.1 db vs. 3.7 only it has a near inaudible high pitch that drove me crazy, like a hum in the ears. I wanted to save $150. Now I'll use it for off-line weekly backups and wait until I can afford another X15.

The pursuit of perfection is impossibly expensive!

I tried running the Express tools 2.7 version in classic and my numbers were non-sensical to say the least. I did tests on both Hardware raids and non-raided drives that the performance was known in OS9. Now, I would expect the protocols and I/O to change with the new OS, but I was getting huge upward read gains on the tests and 10 to 20 percent of the OS9 write performance.

I think that should be the reason why ATTO rewrote the bench program to go along with the OSX RAID software.

Well I hope that ATTO gets the new bench util up soon I am dying for an accurate test......
