View Full Version : SoftRAID out of sync?

One of our servers with a RAID 1 setup has started to have problems. About once every 3 to 5 days it will make some HD noise (like it is reading/writing, but louder than I would consider normal). When I check SoftRAID, it shows the drives out of sync, and I rebuild the mirror with no problems. Everthing seems fine for a few days, then it happens again. I think I am up to the 4th or 5th occurance.

The server:

PTP 225
224 Megs
4 Gig IDE (1)
OS 9.1
Filemaker Server 5.0

SCSI setup:
Apple53C875card NCR,875
IBM 9 Gig (1)
Quantum 9 Gig (1)
SoftRAID 2.2.2

Sorry for the lack of info, but the machine is in use (and had been for years).

I guess the question is: Could this be a software (SoftRAID) or config. issue, or is one of the drives starting to fail, or somthing else?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a drive failing to me.

That's what I have been assuming, especially since the RAID drives are at least 3-4 years old.

I don't have much experience with SoftRAID (just installed it and it worked great. . .) , so I wanted to rule out any software issues before I swapped drives.
