I asked this of the fine gurus but haven't gotten a reply yet- (perhaps enjoying their labor day)....

I am building a dual channel ultra160 array with 8 drives. Is it better to put them all in one case and run two cables or to go with two 4 drive cases? The 8 drive case is cheaper but the 2 case route results in more fans....

Speaking of fans, I am putting this into a fairly small office. I am leaning toward putting the optional bay fans on every drive. Will this be too noisy?

Thanx,

Chris

Chris,

I chose the 8-bay Burly for six drives in dual channel configuration. I also upgraded the power supply from 250W to 300W.

MAP5083 8-Bay 5.25-in SCSI Encl w/ 15-ID Switches $334.99 ea

The Granite stuff, TPO LVD cabling is on the same page further down. The 2x4 config sounds good. The 8-bay is a bit taller than my PTP and 2x4 could both be put on the floor or table without so much height.

I did not choose the MAPHT2 fans. Instead I chose the Ultimate Hard Drive Cooler, eight of them, here http://www.macgurus.com/shoppingcart/obj_show_page.cgi?coolingdevices2.html k
