View Full Version : iDVD2?

OK - this is not really a video phile question - but I am puzzled. I purchased a G4/867 with SUPERDRIVE and it did not come (that I could see) with iDVD2 - or any version of iDVD. Now I can burn DVDs, but I does not seem I can burn them to play in a standard DVD player. I do have iTunes, iMovie - I would have expected iDVD to install with the software (I am running 10.1 - but a quick search by sherlock revealed that I do not have anything called iDVD on any of my partitions - even with Mac OS 9.2). Or maybe it is on a separate disk?

Maybe I lost it in the excitment?

What am I missing?

To boldly go where no english professor has gone before! -)

My G4-800DP with SuperDrive came with iDVD 1.0.1. I'm sure it is also on the OS CD (9.2.1) that also came with it. I think there are four CD's that came with it. k

Do you mean the restore CDs?

What I got:

One OS9.2.1 CD
One OS10.0.4 CD
One Apple Hardware Test CD
Four PowerMac G4 Software Restore CDs
Two blank 16x CDRs
One AppleCare CD

Much more than I remembered. k

OK - This really sucks. I do not have iDVD1 or 2. The ONLY thing I have found is the update to iDVD2. What the hell am I missing???? Well iDVD - yes that is it. Where the hell can I get either a full copy of iDVD1 or iDVD2?

This is really making me http://www.macgurus.com/ubb/mad.gif I would call Apple and shove something up their rear, but I can not find their number right now. http://www.macgurus.com/ubb/mad.gif

Hey drag,
I can't find anything on my QS either. I got the combo drive and never noticed. I do see that Apple sells iDVD2 for 19.95. They also claim comes installed on all DVD models, yeh right.

I'm going to run the Software Restore onto one of my free partitions and see if its there. I'll let you know what I find.

Apple has 24/7 at-1800-my-apple. Might be worth wearing out someones ear.

Oh boy is that exciting! Software Restore ERASES a drive B4 install. I had a empty partition and selected it, pressed go and felt my heart rate go to 140+ as I envisioned the whole drive gettin NUKED.

I don't want to go there again! Adrenalin has got to be outlawed.

Turns out though that it only erased the partition http://macgurus.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif whoooooohoooooo.

I still have no copy of iDVD on my computer, so forget about the restore software. Time to get some at Apple I'd say. Get in there and fight.

OK - I have my fingers crossed. For some reason Apple installs iDVD (so they say) but of course if you whipe the drive or partition the drive iDVD is TOAST! I am baffled as to why there is NO copy of iDVD included with all the install disks. There is not even a link to download it. I checked with a tech - he thought that I might be able to download the update - iDVD 2.0.5 update and have it force the install of the original or full version or something. This does not work. I run through the installer and it shows all my drives but they are all greyed out - so I can not install - because there is no original version to install on.

After about 30 minutes on hold I was transfered (unknowningly) to the post sales 'support' at Apple. They finally found my order and they are sending me the full iDVD2 CD ROM. It should ship out on Friday and I should get it on Wednesday... if all goes well.

If I can figure out how to image these damn X disks I may just post it to the Guru's FTP site - if they do not mind. If Apple has any issues with their software on the Guru's site - well they can shove it where the sun dont shine. http://www.macgurus.com/ubb/mad.gif

I checked every OS9 and later plus all of the QS CDs I have and iDVD is not on any of them. Also, please don't put iDVD on the ftp site. Apple wants $$ for that. BTW, Apple does monitor forums, including this one. k

GOOD! Maybe they will get a clue. I mean they are better than MonopolySoft, but some days I wonder.

It is Illegal and Immoral to charge $3,000 for a computer with a DVD burner and FAIL to include the DVD movie burning software. I expect more from Apple. They are not a rinky dink Dell, Compaq or Gateway. I expect Apple to have VALUES!

OK No iDVD uploads. No disinigrations either... I guess http://macgurus.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

My Dig Audio 733 came with a seperate installer disk of iDVD 1 I just received my iDVD 2 disk for OS X and is it sweet! as soon as you draga clip to the window it starts encoding in the background. I was building the DVD interface and stopped to check my mail and heard my raid accessing....the only thing I was doing with the raid was iDVD so I searched iDVD and found my movie was almost 20% encoded!! Sweet!
