Query to all (I'm taking this one off the original thread of 'Would this be a deal?')

I'm running my PTP225/G3/500 with OS 9.1.. The machine has the stock TwinTurbo video card - is there an advantage to downloading and installing the IxMicro software? Does it work under 9.1?. Or should I just leave it as is?

I dont think the ixM drivers work with 9. There isnt much acceleration anyways... that G3/500 is probably pushing that old card faster than anything else. http://macgurus.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I am currently using a TT (OEM) that came with the S900 I just got and I am using the 4.06 driver set that I downloaded from the gurus' FTP site. I has been working fine for me under 9.1 for just under a week. I also have a friend with a PTP with a G3 upgrade that is using the same driver under 9.1 as well, with no complaints.

I think I would like Louie and maybe the_anarch to jump in on this one, Chris, as I believe they both may be running PTP's under OS9.1 with TT's installed.

Unfortunately, I have no specific experience running the TwinTurbo card under OS9.1. IN fact, I don't have any specific experience running anything under OS9.1, as the highest I've gone is 8.6. That will change soon...

The TwinTurbos were great, solid cards. Especially the 8MB versions, which I believe would've been the stock configuration in PowerTower Pros like yours (that's what was inside mine when I got it off eBay, and I'm pretty sure I was the first user to open it's case). In lieu of any 16MB video card solutions that may become available to you, I'd say you're in great video shape.

Since we seem to have at least one report of the ixMicro drivers working well under OS 9.1, I'd say go ahead and download them. There isn't a whole lot of configuration to mess with- just set your resolution and color depth and enjoy- but having the drivers is better than not, assuming 9.1 doesn't pay them any mind.

As Miles said, they are available on our FTP site under the folder "ixmicro_stuff" here (ftp://ftp.macgurus.com/%2Fftp/ixmicro_stuff/). Download at will and let us know if you have any trouble.

EXCELLENT!!! - just downloaded the 4.06 update from the FTP site... and installed it.

Ta-da, now I can run this NEC XV15+ monitor at 1024 x 768 at 72 Hz under the TT control panel. No way to do this with Apple's monitor software...

Excellent - thanks everyone...

(Now - to think about a Radeon upgrade for this box so I can run dual monitors...)

Hey Chris! Check out my latest post on your "would this be a deal" thread. Worried about your comment about no RAID box with fan, let me know whats happening, will check both of these threads later to see what up....
