I need some help locating OS 9.0.4 to run on a 9600. Digidesign(pro-tools)
will only support 9.0.4 not 9.1. The problem is 9.0 is no longer sold by any vendor that I have contacted. I have the 9.0.4 updater but no 9.0.
A client of mine has the 9.0 disc labeled "for g4 computers" but it will not
run on my 9600 despite all efforts. I get a "can't run this software on this machine" message. Was there a g4 disc and a non g4 disc?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Ned

I purchased an OS9.0.4 Universal Installer CD from Small Dog as I recall so there was no need to install OS9, then the 9.0.4 updater. You will have to browse around to find one though. k

The 9.04 CD's were still being advertized by all the mail order places when 9.1 was released. There should be plenty of leftovers this soon.

Thanks for your reply. To my dismay, all the usual vendors are out of stock(small dog,j+r,cdw, etc. I found someone on ebay selling a copy. Sure seems
like a long way to go for a required mac os.
If anyone knows of a store that still has stock, please let me know.

Try MacConnection, MacZone, MacMall, ClubMac, and MacWarehouse. Their latest catalogs still show it.

Huh. I run ProTools on 2 machines running 9.1 without a hitch. One is a 9600 and the other is a 7300. Digidesign is in a funky stae of being. They also don't officially support Initio Miles2 cards. I am running those, too.

What ProTools are you running? PT III and PT Free are the only ones I can find that do not support anything other than OS 8.6 or 9. I know for a fact that PT Free works on a variety of Macs running 9.1, even though it states it is unsupported.

I understand your dilemma in finding an OS9 CD. I wish I had some help to offer in that area.

Hi Kaye. Sorry to say the posting was old. Mac dried up the supply of 9.0.4.
I have tried every mac store there is, to no avail. If anyone wants to help out a user in need, please let me know and I'll re-emburse you for your trouble. I would much rather buy this from mac, but no one has it. I'll check on ebay as well.
Thanks,
Ned
