The OS CD's for 8.0, 8.1, and 8.5 have a Disk Tools folder for creating a bootable floppy. The 8.6 and 9.0.4 CD's do not have such a folder or utility that I can find. Nor can I find one at Apple. Can anyone help? k

Hey k,

The system got too big to even fit a barebones version in the space of a floppy. I have been using a 100 MB Zip disc as a bootable tools/utility disk. I manually pared this down over time to try to fit more tools on the disk. I have long lost track of the size of the pruned system folder without the added extensions for my tools, but it was way way more than 1.4 MB. I think in the near future that I'll get a burner and burn a bootable CD-ROM tools/ utilities disk for maximum portability.

Thanks MM. Both my S900 and PTP will boot off of the floppies I created with 8.0, 8.1, and 8.5. So I guess I will have to stick with them. k

I have been running the bootable-burned-CD scheme for a while. Seems the only way to go after Apple burned it's tiny-OS bridge. Gotta give them credit for keeping it up so long. Anyone seen a WinME boot floppy? Or Win98? Not me.

Well yes, for example Win95 http://madisonaudubon.org/cowpath/help/bootfloppy.htm and WinMe or http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/disc/windowsmefaq.html#Howdoimake

Possibly others here http://www.bootdisk.com/ k

Well, that's a neat and tidy answer. That's why I stay on the Mac side of life. Or rather, yet another reason. I am a lot less likely to stick my foot in my mouth. Now I have some fodder to shovel at the few PC people I deal with who asled me that question. Thanks, K!!
