View Full Version : FTP down?

Outside of the problem that the ftp site is structured in a way Netscape can't use, I'm now unable to get there via IE, Interarchy, Fetch, WS FTP, or IE PC...something I'm missing, or is the FTP site down?

I have accessed the ftp w/ Nutscrape. Seems more miss than hit though.

Magician might be doing some upgrading.

that's odd....I just accessed the server over the network without a problem.....but can't log on w Interarchy.

ok.....I'll go reboot her.

hmmm.....she rebooted cleanly, but for some reason it's taking file sharing a long time to start up.

i'll check her again later, and if she's still acting up, i'll install Rumpus onto the new server and point it at the directories on the old server across the network. Then I can transfer files in the background, and take the old server down in the AM.

sorry for the weirdness....I guess we should be pleased that NetPresenz and a 6100 worked at all, and particularly for as long as they did.

the new server is much faster, with a lot more capacity.

Ooof. Finally got in. I was getting the "File Sharing is starting up" message for a long time. Thanks Mag. I will grab some things off it tonight. Gotta love those 6100's! http://macgurus.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

thanks for the heads up!

I firmly believe that this planet would come to a crashing halt in its orbit if every 6100 in the world suddenly and simultaneously ceased to function. http://macgurus.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm confused. DSM, how are you accessing the FTP server if you're getting the "File Sharing is Starting Up" message? Are you able to access it with AppleTalk? Are you on the Gurus' network? Or am I just missing something completely obvious?

The NetPrezenze FTP server software uses Apple's File Sharing stuff. It must have barfed.

I am not sure WHY it takes file sharing so long to fire up on bo_bo, but it takes like 15 minutes or so.

very weird.

anyway, the new server keeps crashing when I do innocuous stuff like transfer 500MB of files from one server to another across the network, and I am mystified.

she survived the memory torture test last night, though she DID crash when I added the Intech Integrity torture corrollary to the equation.

banshee, by way of comparison, ran for entire weekends cranking out the memory torture test with 3D spinning fractals in the foreground and Integrity hitting the array at the same time. Now THAT is rock-solid.

I am pulling the memory, and swapping it out on the new server. Then we'll see if we're ready to transition.

I hope so. This new server has been a pain in the butt. I don't know WHY I don't just use one of my spare 7500's for it and get on w life.

What is the new FTP server? The old 6100 did a good job.
