View Full Version : CHEAPEST way to upgrade B&W G3?

I'd like to upgrade to a 500Mhz G4 chip from a B&W G3/350. Is there a cheap way to do this? What options are there for a dual 500Mhz upgrade? I don't really understand XLR8s explanation of the MPe products. Do they have a card that I can just stick in the ZIF slot and add 2 CPUs?
Thanks in advance.

you can easily drop a G4 500MHz ZIF in that machine. They are listed on our XLR8 ZIF (http://www.macgurus.com/shoppingcart/showrampage.cgi?xlr8boards1z.html) page.

you can also install an XLR8 Velocity into the ZIF socket on your logic board, then install a pair of G4 ZIF into the Velocity board and end up with a dual-G4 500MHz upgrade. That's the hard way to do it. The easy way is to simply purchase a Velocity upgrade which already includes the dual G4 ZIF.

Velocity upgrades are listed on our Velocity page (http://www.macgurus.com/shoppingcart/showrampage.cgi?xlr8boards2cz.html).

we're accepting orders now for shipments in late Feb.

hope this helps?

$1400!! OUCH! Well, I guess it's cheaper than buying a new G4. Perhaps the single processor is the way for me to go for now http://macgurus.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

One more question...
If I bought a 500Mhz G4 MPe ZIF, would I be able to buy another one later and mount it on a velocity card if I wanted to upgrade to dual 500s later?
