View Full Version : Need another source for Rev.B ROM's

It appears that OWC has run out of their stock of Rev. B ROM's for Beige G3's. Does anyone know of another reliable source for these?

Can someone tell me categorically that a Rev. B ROM is needed for ZIF processor upgrades? I have a Desktop Beige G3 233MHz looking at a 400/450 ZIF upgrade.

OWC is the only place that I have seen advertising them. They seem to be needed to upgrade to 450 and above. Check here http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/cpucards.html .

you do not require a ROM upgrade. We have a rev a beige G3 in the basement running a 500MHz G3 XLR8 ZIF at 533MHz. It not only rocks under OS9.04, OSXb flies on it, as well.

the only reason that I am aware of to upgrade ROM is if you want to gain IDE slave functionality in a rev a beige G3.

Maybe the answer is some do; some don't. This is not very definitive.

you know what, Louie? You're right.

all I should have said is that MY beige G3, which is a rev a, didn't require a ROM upgrade.

I just ordered a rev B ROM from AllMac last week. $75 though...

I guess the low supply is really elevating the prices on these little buggers. It looks like I will need to get the processor upgrade and just see how it goes. I am interested in doing a master/slave setup but may have to just wait and see.
Thanks for all the advice.

There are other used Apple parts dealers. Kaye should be back tomorrow. He's got them bookmarked.

You might even see if an Apple dealer would order one for you (and how much).
The Apple part number is the same for the 4.5F1 and the 4.5 F2; not sure about the 4.0F2 (Rev A).

I could not find a Rev. B ROM anywhere, even on AllMac, though you could try calling them. MacResQ does not have them either though a call might get them to order one. OWC might get some more in. I remember that they ran out of them once before and got more stock in later, if you can wait for that possibility. k

I did call Allmac to get my new ROM. I couldn't find it on the website either. You may want to also order 2mm jumpers, since the more common .1" ones don't fit right. Make sure they send you nine, since this is the number of pins on the block. They only sent me six, and I lost one. Fortunately, five got me through.
