View Full Version : Discharge CRT

I recently became owner of a Mac G3 all-in-one. In the process of moving it, the CRT was broken.
I have the manual for installing a new CRT, but there are no instructions on discharging the old one. I would like to repair the machine.

Since a second monitor can be attached, I have been able to verify that the computer does work.

If you know where can get instructions on discharging the CRT, I think I can repair the computer.

Came up with a couple searching the forums for "discharge":

1. iMac CRT repair (http://www.macgurus.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=40160367&f=55360809&m=75960319&r=27960319#27960319)

2. PDF Manual (http://www.macgurus.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=40160367&f=55360809&m=84460319&r=16460319#16460319) in iMac monitor repair.

www.xlr8yourmac.com (http://www.xlr8yourmac.com) has a wealth of information, but I don't know if there is a report that covers what you need, worth a shot (AYM uses Google search of the site which might yield some answers).

?I put a copy of the service manual for the all in one on my iDisk. Maybe it has what you need. AIO Manual (http://homepage.mac.com/rstephens/.Public/powermac_g3_all_in_one.pdf)

Quis Custodiet Custodes Ipsos?

Rick, the AIO manual you suggested is the one I have. It just says discharge the CRT and goes to next step.

Greg, the AIO is not an iMac although the monitor discharge may be similar.

The G3 AIO is apparently an education version of the beige G3 266.

I could not download the instructions from the iMac file you suggested.

A replacement CTR will cost about $130 so if I have to pay to have it installed, my expense will be about the same buying an AIO.

Since this thing was in a school, there may be other problems. (I did find a staple in the zip drive.)

Thanks for the help.

A lot of BugBear.B virus is jamming email servers and home pages for many users are off line since Friday as they try and deal with an avalanche of junk mail. Or, the link is just too old.

I figured the iMac was similar enough to get some ideas etc possibly. Of course users are selling off Beige boxes and moving up to G4/G5 systems.

Stapes??? were they storing envelopes and stamps in there too?

Here's a link I found with a Yahoo search using 'CRT Discharge'. CRT Opening Guide (http://users.creative.net.au/~mla/mla_site/crt.html)

And a direct link to a pdf file from Apple. displaydischarge.pdf (http://www.wileytradegroup.com/imac_repair/displaydischarge.pdf).
