My Powermac 7500/225 reads data CD's just fine but recently when I put an audio CD into the drive, all the desktop icons disappear and the computer freezes. I can still move the mouse cursor but can't activate anything. I have to do a cold re-start and eject the audio CD to get back to normal.I haven't added anything recently. When I go to System Profiler, it finds the CDROM OK but says driver type "unavailable". Any idea what is going on????

Off the top of my head I'd say your cd-rom driver has changed, disappeared, gone incommunicado http://macgurus.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif, perhaps.

I assume you have played audio CDs recently with success?

Which cd-rom drivers do you think you have been using?

You might try...
1) trash your cd-rom driver's prefs file
2) reinstall said driver pkg

Personally, I've never run into this specific scenario.

Perhaps some of the more grizzled http://macgurus.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif veterans here can shed more light.
